One Hit Wonder

OHW is an ongoing collaborative piece of work that took of in 2025 in the city of Ghent. In this body of work people could connect by entering one of the fourtyfive fictitious bands that I made up. Each band has it’s own equally fictitious title and got three words to describe the possible feel and look of the band. For the project to take place I needed a space. By chance I got to use an old clothing store in the center of Ghent with big thanks to NUCLEO. I spend fourteen days, twelve hours a day, in this space. By being present in the space passersby could hop in and come join a band by playing and recording an instrument that was provided by the space right then and there. Each recording could only last for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Besides this there where few other parameters that only got installed over the time spend in the space. If people where not that big on playing music for a band they could still join by making artwork for the cassette’s the results are gonna be recorded on. Or even make merchandise for example. The general idea was to create DIY and lowkey connectivity without any certain outcome or result. People of all ages, genders and different backgrounds and different interest swung by and where incredibly generous and willing to share there time with mine. By having no expectations participants could stick around as short or as long as they liked with having respect to each other in mind. And thus I am very thankful for all the people involved and I am looking forward to continuing the project. And if all bodes well I might end up making it an annual project.

  12. EERIE - pilgrimage  (cold, distant, filthy)

  13. Poked with brute force - oozing with confidence (jittery, floof, aloof)

  14. Lazy landlord - just make more money (stern, altruism, rental) 

  15. Rock paper schizo’s - me myself and someone else (echo, layered, soft)

  16. Beluga whale - sealabyrinth (submerged, roaring, lost)

  17. Osmoses - the glider (bazooka, straightforward, protective membrane)

  18. Psalm trees - hymns for distant relatives (anti religion, organ, propaganda)

  19. Gym member - hard squeak (steroids, sweaty, pumping)

  25. Glaring afterimage - postpone phony pherapy (stretched, misleading, trickery)

  37. Overgrown grass - my neighbors are ruining my life (machines, gesticulation, exuberant)

  38. The mope tones - compulsive complaining helps me relativize the horrors of living (extrovert, sirens, alpinism)

  39. Donderpoezen - Thundercats go (turbo, growling, skewed)

  40. Kurt koppijn - new cosmetics (esoteric, floating, damaged)

  41. Snakewrestler - transfixed (skin suit, solitude, flute tones)

  42. Charles Malace - warmth from another (weighted blanket, parenthood, aging)

  43. Boo Crook - dragon tracksuit (blitz, blazing, bold)

  44. Heli Mom - I have an eye on you (careful, corner pockets, subterranean)
